Static HTML Websites Vs WordPress/CMS

In this article we will be outlining the advantages and disadvantages of custom HTML websites and CMS such as WordPress. Both of which are very reasonable choices when it comes to getting your new website online, but they both have their own pros and cons.

Let’s begin with WordPress. WordPress is the most popular CMS choice in the market nowadays with a staggering 60% of CMS sites being powered by it. If you look at all websites online, around 35% is supposedly powered by WP. Since WP is the CMS giant we’ll be using it as our example for this article.

  • You do not need a lot of technical knowledge to manage your content.
  • WordPress can make designing websites much quicker and convenient.
  • WordPress is very good for SEO, which can result in you topping the google rankings easier.
  • You can easily manage a WooCommerce store from your WP dashboard.

Cons

  • Unless you have a custom theme (which can be very hard and expensive to make) your design isn’t unique because it’s likely built with a template.
  • There can be security issues with the dashboard, through plugin vulnerabilities and other elements.
  • If your WP site is bloated with code through themes and lots of plugins, it will become very slow to load.
  • Your website is limited to the functions of your theme and plugins.

Static HTML Website Pros and Cons

  • There are no security vulnerabilities.
  • You don’t need to update themes/plugins.
  • There are no bugs.
  • Your website will be unique and there will be no other like it.

Cons

  • You can’t manage your content.
  • If you want to make changes to the text, you need some technical knowledge.
  • If you want to change the layout, you need to be proficient in HTML and CSS.
